Some of Jon’s most meaningful murals weren’t painted alone. Through community-based mural projects, Jon invites people of all ages and skill levels to help bring large-scale artwork to life. These projects turn blank walls into spaces of connection — where creativity, collaboration, and local pride meet.

From schools and nonprofits to neighborhoods and city spaces, each mural becomes a reflection of the people who helped create it. If your goal is to bring people together while creating something lasting and meaningful, a community mural project is a powerful way to do it.

making an impact

Jon, a graduate of the Roanoke College Class of 2009, returned to his alma mater to create awe-inspiring art on all four sides of the structure that serves as the Maroon Village lounge—and students were offered the chance to help the mural take shape alongside him.

The project, which began in late September of 2025, lasted about six weeks. Those students who wished to participate were invited to sign up for one of six students sessions. During each session, Jon was able to work alongside ten students to ultimately bring the completed mural to life.

So, how does a community mural project take shape?

Jon will work with your organization to develop a mural concept that reflects your community’s story, values, or mission.

During painting days, Jon leads participants step-by-step—making the process accessible, fun, and rewarding, even for first-time painters.

The final piece is a professional, cohesive mural—made stronger by the many hands that helped create it.
